What Indiana homes are up against.

A burner and heat exchanger that cycle for most of the year accumulate wear at a pace that a marginal install cannot hide. Homes in Indiana run heat about eight months a year, from October through May. That kind of sustained demand exposes undersizing quickly: a furnace running near its ceiling month after month will flag a bad fit through short-cycling, uneven recovery, or parts failing ahead of schedule. A contractor quoting a replacement here is not just matching square footage to a spec sheet. They are accounting for what the equipment will actually be asked to sustain, and getting that wrong costs the homeowner a repair call long before a replacement would otherwise be due.
A quote for new HVAC equipment starts with what the house already has. Half the homes in Indiana were built in 1976 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). Ductwork sized and routed for older equipment may restrict airflow in ways that undercut a modern system's rated output, and the electrical service feeding that equipment gets measured before a contractor specifies anything that draws more current. Neither is a formality. A house where the infrastructure was built for one generation of equipment and is now being asked to support another requires that a contractor open, measure, and decide, not assume.
Does your county put extra wear on your HVAC system?

A condenser sitting outside in Indiana faces hail, ice, high winds, and summer heat that can push refrigerant pressure to its limits. Equipment sized or positioned without accounting for that exposure works harder than it should and wears faster. The contractor you are matched with knows how to spec and place equipment for what the site actually demands.
Indiana HVAC Installation and Repair License Requirements
Indiana has no statewide HVAC license. Cities and counties license contractors.
Plumbers are the only construction contractors Indiana licenses: the state’s own Business Owner’s Guide names HVAC, electrical and plumbing contractors side by side and says the plumber is the one the State of Indiana licenses, with the rest licensed by city and county.
Every contractor we send a request to holds the license your city or county requires.

Indiana has no statewide HVAC licence and the state says so itself: the Department of Workforce Development states that HVAC licensing is handled at the local level and that the requirements vary from county to county, with only the federal EPA 608 refrigerant certification required everywhere.
